Scientific Research

¡¡¡¡Science and technology are the first productive force. Being a national team, scientific research on TCM is the central task of the Academy. Always taking a lead on the national level, the Academy has carried out an all-round research on TCM, according to the overall requirements of the State Science and Technology Development Plan on TCM, to meet the demands of the national strategy, and to improve the health level of the people. From 1996 to 2005, the number of the research projects undertaken by the Academy has increased year by year, with more and more research investments.

¡¡¡¡By the end of 2005, the Academy has undertaken 450 research projects of different subjects in total, including 192 national projects, 166 projects from the State Administration of TCM, 12 projects from other ministries, 57 projects from Beijing, 7 projects from WHO, and 16 projects from the Academy. The total research investment was 1720.7 million Yuan/RMB.

¡¡¡¡ Scientific research has already become a priority on the agenda (the preoccupation) of the Academy for further development, and it will surely inspire the Academy to march for the goal of representing the highest levels of TCM not only in China but also in the world.


Medical Service

¡¡¡¡A high quality medical service is provided in the Academy on the basis of fully preserving the typical characteristics and features of TCM. In total, there are 1550 beds in the affiliated hospitals of the Academy. Xi Yuan Hospital and Guang An Men Hospital are classified as the national Grade Three and Class-A (the highest level) Hospitals and the national model TCM Hospitals. Wang Jing Hospital, also classified as the national Grade Three and Class-A, is a general hospital with specialty in orthopaedics and traumatology. Eye Hospital, classified as the national Grade Three and Class-B, is a general hospital with unique characteristics in TCM ophthalmology.

¡¡¡¡Various clinical departments have been established in the affiliated hospitals, such as: internal medicine, surgery, genecology, pediatrics, acupuncture and moxibustion, anus-rectum, dermatology, tumor, urology, orthopedics and traumatology, Tuina(massage), ophthalmology, ENT, stomatology, Qigong and emergency, etc. And modern medical equipment has been installed in the departments, such as: CT, color ultrasound B, large X-ray, large biochemistry analyzer, flow cytometry, etc. In the clinical work, the doctors treat various kinds of common diseases, frequently-occurred diseases, and some of difficult and complicated cases of illness, mainly with the therapeutic methods of TCM, combined with modern medicine techniques. Thus, rich experiences and unique therapeutic effects have been obtained in some specific fields, such as: cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, wind stroke, tumor, digestive diseases, anorectal diseases, dermatologic diseases, urologic diseases, gastric diseases, geriatric diseases, blood diseases, ophthalmologic diseases and orthopedic and traumatic diseases. Therefore, all of the 4 hospitals of CACMS have enjoyed great prestige both at home and abroad.


Education & Training

¡¡¡¡CACMS is an important educational institution for training senior TCM professionals in China. At present, CACMS is authorized to offer doctoral and master's degrees in all of the disciplines of TCM, which are classified into the 3 first-class subjects, namely: traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), Chinese materia medica and the integrated traditional and Western medicine. CACMS is also authorized to issue degrees to those in clinical medicine and for those on-the-job personnel to apply for degrees. Moreover, postdoctoral stations of integrated traditional and Western medicine, TCM and Chinese Materia Medica have been established in the academy.

¡¡¡¡The Graduate School of CACMS is one of the earliest educational institutions offering TCM degrees approved by the Degree Committee of the State Council, PRC. Now, there are about 500 students studying for doctoral and master's degrees, among whom, 40 are from overseas. The school has also cooperated with the institutions in Singapore and Hong Kong and opened up some master's degree courses. Approved by the National Education Committee, the school also provides education of applying for master's degree for those with the same record of formal schooling.

¡¡¡¡The Training Center of CACMS focuses on TCM continuing education, professional education and on-the-post education, with strong teaching resources and favorable clinical practice bases. It conducts basic, middle and advanced courses regularly all year round, and correspondence courses on hospital administration, MBA and project management.

¡¡¡¡ Beijing International Acupuncture Training Center is an international training institution approved by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, PRC. With an aim of introducing acupuncture, TCM theory and clinical treatment techniques for the medical professionals in the world, so far, the center has trained over 8,000 foreign acupuncture practitioners from more than 100 countries.
